Course Description

Along with Principles of Addiction Treatment and Client Record Management, Addiction Counseling Skills is considered to be part of the “Core Curriculum” and basic to the foundational training of a Certified Addiction Counselor, Level I (CAC I). The purpose of this class is to provide a framework and counseling model for working with clients with substance misuse and addiction.

The focus of this course is to teach the counseling skills needed to help clients process their information and move toward the change process. The models utilized are client­-centered, counselor-­directed therapy along with motivational spirit of counseling. Videotaping and feedback will assist the participants in developing a standard level of counseling skills proficiency.

Nonrefundable / Nontransferable course due to limited class size of 8 students

Time/Duration: Virtual class meets online via Zoom from 8:30 – 5:00 (21 hours) for 3 consecutive days. Students will also have an online classroom with  link, handouts and resource material for class as well as where students take the final exam and course evaluation. Enrolled students will receive online classroom login/password 2 days prior to class start date.
