Online Course Descriptions:

Note: Odyssey on-line classes listed in the Free and Credit sections are approved for continuing education credit by the National Board of Certified Counselors, NBCC, and the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors, NAADAC. State approval has also been granted by several states, including Colorado's Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division, ADAD for 7 and 14 CAC elective credit. It is the student's responsibility to check with their local governing boards to determine the suitability of these credits for the employer or local licensing authority.

Students that successfully complete the classes and the final exam, receive a Certificate of Completion for credit verification. Classes are also approved for CE credit by the NBCC and NAADAC.

Free - CAC Certification Introduction
The objective of the CAC program is to prepare you to become substance abuse treatment professional that has the knowledge, skills, training and work experience in treating substance abuse issues. The on-line CAC requirements class provides a thorough background and understanding of CAC counselor work related responsibilities, the requirements and processes for meeting professional criteria, and completing agency applications for CAC Level I,II,III certification.

Free - Intro/Adolescent Substance Abuse
This class is designed for substance abuse counselors, mental health practitioners and other social service professionals needing course work on adolescence substance abuse issues. The FREE introductory sample is taken from Part 1 and gives you an idea of the format and design of the 14 credit hour class.

This two-part, 14 credit, on-line course is designed for substance abuse counselors, mental health practitioners and other social service providers needing course work on adolescence substance abuse issues.

This class will address current drug use/abuse patterns among adolescents. Identify and assess what is normal versus abnormal behaviors in adolescents. Using case studies to define the continuum of education, intervention and treatment. Introduce motivational strategies to effect change.

This class is designed to meet continuing education requirements for Colorado's DVOMB. Debra Wingfield, Ed.D., LPC has taken her well regarded classroom program and created a multilevel interactive course that offers a broader range of source and reference materials, Counselor Tips and case study analysis. The focus remains on Family of Origin patterns that are instrumental in the intergenerational transmission of family violence. Perpetrator and victim issues are addressed and treatment techniques are reviewed. The student will learn to Identify Family of Origin patterns related to violence, identify victim issues related to family violence, and define Intergenerational Family Violence treatment approaches.

Addiction and Violence

The connection between addiction and domestic violence has been identified for some time and there is a wealth of research to support this claim. Many of the clients we see as clinicians have some kind of addiction, coupled with current or past domestic violence issues. In order to work effectively with these clients it is important to understand that addiction and domestic violence are co-existing disorders. This class will explore addiction, the effects and connection of drugs with domestic violence, as well as legislative roles and treatment issues. By the end of the course, the student will have an understanding of addictions and domestic violence, and be able to demonstrate and incorporate this knowledge in their own clinical practice.

Jurisprudence Examination Primer

This online class is a compilation and interpretation of the materials and information required to pass the new Jurisprudence Examination from DORA. Many people who have to take this exam, which is in open-book format and comes with your application packet, have asked us for some refresher materials.

This class reviews and discusses the material covered by the exam as well as gives a number of tips on how to take exams like this.
